On just the second day of court proceedings in Munich, today Adrian Sutil was handed an 18 month suspended sentence and ordered to pay €200,000 in fines which will go towards various charities for causing bodily harm to Lotus F1 team co-owner Eric Lux.
The incident, which involved an altercation between Adrian Sutil and Eric Lux in a nightclub after the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix, resulted in Adrian Sutil causing a neck injury to Eric Lux with a champagne glass.
Adrian Sutil told the court yesterday that he had attempted to rectify the situation with Eric Lux out of court, had offered an apology to Lux, and had even offered to drive for Lotus F1 Team in 2012 for a heavily reduced salary.
Eric Lux stated that he expected Adrian to have “at least” visited him in Luxembourg to offer a personal apology.
The sentence and fine is yet another blow to Adrian Sutil’s attempts to return to Formula 1 in 2012, after already having been replaced by Nico Hulkenberg at Sahara Force India.
Adrian Sutil’s manager is yet to release a statement.
