Former F1 driver Robert Doornbos has ruled himself out of the running for the remaining seats at both USF1 and Campos Meta. The Dutch driver competed with Minardi in 2005 and selected races with Red Bull the following year before heading to the US to compete in Champ Car and IndyCar.
"There were some conversations with USF1 and Campos Meta who were interested," Doornbos told South African publication Wheels 24. "They were just asking for US $5m in sponsorship money. If I had that much, I would be at the front in the IndyCar Series rather than at the back in Formula One."
Doornbos is expected to race with HVM Racing again this year in the IndyCar series.
