As reported yesterday, GP2 journeyman Karun Chandhok is on the brink of signing with Campos Meta for the news season. Today newly recruited team principal Colin Kolles confirmed that the team are close to an agreement with the Indian driver.
“We have been very impressed with Karun’s performance in GP2 and are close to finalising a deal with him,” Crash.net reports Kolles as saying. “India is a great country and it would be great for the sport to have an Indian driver on the grid. However, we will be in a better position to comment on this over the next few days."
The team are currently in a race against time to get the cars prepared and ready for the Bahrain Grand Prix, something that Kolles admits will be an achievement in itself.
Chandhok’s father-manager Vicky believes that he is homing in on a deal with the Spanish team.
“We are in talks with Colin and hope to confirm a deal very soon,” Chandhok Snr confirmed.
Chandhok has competed in the GP2 series for the last three years, his best result coming with iSport in 2008 where he finished tenth in the championship.
