"I want to be champion with Williams"

Pastor Maldonado insists he is happy at Williams.

It is assumed that, due to his links with Venezuelan title sponsor PDVSA, the 26-year-old rookie will definitely head up the British team’s 2012 lineup.

But media sources report that the Maracay-born driver actually has not yet signed a deal for next season.

Even so, rumours in the Singapore paddock this weekend suggest Venezuela is set to increase its commitment to Williams in 2012 rather than scale it back.

Maldonado told British television BBC: "I would like to get Williams to be in a position to fight for the championship and win races, because of that I want to stay there."

In a separate interview with Spain’s AS newspaper he added: "I want to be champion with Williams, because it would be an incredible way to repay them for their trust."
