Felipe Massa today confirmed via. his Twitter account that 2013 will be the last year in which he races for the Scuderia Ferrari team.
After eight seasons with the team and with rumours circulating that Kimi Raikkonen was soon to be announced as returning to the team for 2014, Felipe Massa tweeted to his followers “From 2014 I will no longer be driving for Ferrari”.
In an extended message linked to his Instagram account where a picture of a young Felipe Massa was posted, Massa thanked Ferrari for “all the victories and incredible moments experienced together”. He was also sure to acknowledge his wife, family, fans and sponsors.
Kimi Raikkonen, who raced with Ferrari for three seasons from 2007 through 2009, is expected to be announced as Massa’s replacement for the 2014 season after two successful campaigns with the Lotus F1 team.
“Right now I want to push as hard as possible with Ferrari for the remaining 7 races” explained Massa in his online announcement, before stating that he is hoping to find a drive for next year that can offer “a competitive car to win many more races and challenge for the Championship”.
