Round 17 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the Formula 1 Gran Premio De Mexico 2015, sees the Manor Marussia F1 Team making its first visit to Mexico City, to where Formula 1 returns for the first time since 1991. Fresh from his 12th place finish in his home Grand Prix, less than a week ago, Alexander Rossi returns to the cockpit alongside Will Stevens, who had a more disappointing United States Grand Prix in Austin last weekend when his race was cut short on the opening lap.
John Booth │ Team Principal
“It is very exciting to be in Mexico City for what is essentially a new Grand Prix. I personally have visited previously and it really is a fantastic racing destination. The reception from the fans has already been immense, given the outstanding ticket sales, and you can feel the anticipation building all around the city as the weekend gets closer. We’ll get our first real look at the changes to the circuit in the track walk, but the engineers and drivers alike love the challenge of a new circuit. The last race in Austin was one of mixed emotions for us. On the one hand, we were pleased for Alex that he equalled our best finish of the season on home asphalt. On the other, it was disappointing, after our excellent reliability record, that Will was unable to take part in the race following the coming together on the opening lap. Better things this weekend we hope!”
Alexander Rossi
“Looking back on last weekend, and the build-up to my home race, gives me a really special feeling. It was pretty incredible all round. This week though it’s definitely straight back down to business as I want to keep improving with each new event, which has been the case over the past three races so far. It’s great to be back in Mexico City. I raced here once before in Formula BMW – and won the race! – so I think I’m the only one of the current crop of F1 drivers to have raced here. That said, the track has changed a lot, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and picking up where I left off last week.”
Will Stevens
“I’m so excited to be racing in Mexico City. The track looks amazing and after the disappointment of last week, I’m pleased that it has only been a few days between races. This feels like a new race but of course there is so much history to this place, so it will be a really special event. It looks like the weather could be another big factor in how the weekend pans out, but it also plays its part in shaking things up a bit, so we’ll enjoy whatever the racing brings.”
