Pastor Maldonado handed 10-place grid penalty

A moment of stupidity by Maldonado is punished by the race stewards

Pastor Maldonado has been handed a 10-place grid penalty for tomorrows Monaco Grand Prix, after the Venezuelan driver swiped across the front of Sergio Perez in the final practice session earlier this morning. This questionable piece of driving is reminiscent of Belgium last year, when Maldonado and Hamilton came together.

Only moments after this collision, Maldonado was seen limping down the hill towards the Mirabeau hairpin with only three wheels on the car. The Williams driver had made contact with the wall heading through turn 4, and subsequently brought a premature end to the third and final practice session as the red flag emerged.

This penalty will make a second consecutive victory for Maldonado practically impossible, as passing around the streets of Monte-Carlo is extremely difficult. Michael Schumacher will also take a 5-place grid penalty after qualifying, for allegedly causing accident between himself and Bruno Senna during the Spanish Grand Prix last time out.
