Petrov: a small step could make the difference

Vitaly Petrov is hopeful that a range of upgrades to his Caterham at Silverstone this weekend will propel the team up the grid.

With a new front wing and bodywork modifications fitted to his CT-01 at the last race, the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Petrov achieved a joint best result for Caterham of 13th. And with a bigger set of upgrades available this weekend, the Russian said it could help the team take the fight to the teams ahead.

“Here, we bring new back bodywork, a new exhaust, some front wings and probably the rear wing, so we have quite a big update here,” he admitted. “However, we need to see how these upgrades work. This weekend we know that the weather will not be fantastic.”

Petrov added, however, that if the upgrades work as expected then it is possible an improvement could vault Caterham into the midfield tussle.

“You know, all 24 cars are quite close to each other and quite competitive, so if we gain something definitely we will be more competitive than in the last race,” he said. “So I hope these upgrades will give us some good feedback and we can fight with the cars in front.”
