With Pedro de la Rosa being confirmed at Sauber, there are now just four seats remaining for the coming season and it seems that Vitaly Petrov could be on the brink of securing a seat alongside Robert Kubica at Renault.
“We are currently in negotiations with the Renault team and so far everything is at the stage of finalising," Infox.ru quotes the Russian racer as saying.
"No contracts with Renault or any other F1 team," he continued. "One thing can be said with certainty: the negotiations must be completed before February 1, when the test drives begin."
Petrov, who had been linked to a drive with Sauber, finished as runner up in the GP2 series this year behind new Williams recruit Nico Hulkenberg.
