Perez avoids grid penalty after qualifying at Abu Dhabi

Sergio Perez has received a reprimand from the stewards after allegedly impeding the Williams of Bruno Senna during qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, thus meaning his 12th position on the grid remains unaffected. The incident occurred through turns five and six, during the opening segment of qualifying.

After the incident occurred, the race stewards confirmed they would investigate the incident after the qualifying session, and after much deliberation the stewards came to conclusion that Sergio Perez’s actions were not worthy of a grid penalty. The Mexican driver believes his qualifying performance was the maximum possible for the Sauber outfit around the Yas Marina circuit.

“My last lap was a good one and I think this is just about the maximum possible for us here.” Confirmed Sergio Perez, “Q3 today wasn’t within reach, although yesterday I hoped it would be. I have confidence in our race pace and believe we will be able to score points tomorrow.”

Bruno Senna only managed to qualify 15th for the race, three places below the Sauber of Sergio Perez. The future McLaren driver has yet to score a single World Championship point since the Singapore Grand Prix back in September, and has retired from two of the last four races. This weekend the Mexican driver will be striving to finally finish in the points, after several uncompetitive races for the Swiss-outfit.
