Hermann Tilke has backed Korea to finish its F1 circuit in time, but at the same time distanced himself from the Yeongam venue.

Earlier this year, the track’s designer Tilke denied having expressed doubts about the 5.62 kilometre layout being ready for its inaugural race in late October.

The event is now firmly back in the headlines, after F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone expressed concerns that the Korean venue’s completion is late.

"I assume the Koreans will finish in time," said German architect Tilke, founder and chief of F1’s preferred circuit design company Tilke GmbH.

"I am working (on the project) only in an advisory capacity," he told Germany’s Bild newspaper.
