Ho-Pin Tung is set to make his grand prix weekend debut at the wheel of a Renault.
Last week, the World Motor Sport Council approved a "four-race probationary super license" for the Dutch-born Chinese.
He currently races in GP2, but due to his management links to Renault’s new owners, he had been in the running for a seat with the Enstone based team in 2010.
Tung, 27, was instead signed as Renault’s reserve driver.
Finland’s Turun Sanomat cites "sources" in reporting that Tung is set to drive the R30 during a forthcoming Friday practice session.
It will make him the first ever Chinese driver to appear on track during a grand prix event.
