The beleaguered USF1 team headed by Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor is saying nothing in public, while speculation regarding the team’s health continues to circulate. Now the New York Times claims that the scheduled crash test of the 2010 challenger in England this week has been called off.
According to one source, the team is behind on paying staff and that the much talked about test in Alabama will now not take place, despite the team signing Argentinean racer Jose Maria Lopez in January.
“The bottom line is really simple,” the American newspaper reports a source as saying. “Sponsor money didn’t come through the way it was supposed to and it has grinded down the company to a halt.
“They’re having trouble making payroll, they’re having trouble paying suppliers and that’s the situation they find themselves in.”
The sport’s governing body, the FIA, has made it clear that teams cannot miss up to three rounds of the championship and remain in the series. Should the reports be confirmed, it therefore seems increasingly unlikely that the Charlotte-based team will compete this year.
