A quick look at USF1’s website reveals that they have signed one driver, but as speculation continues around their participation in the 2010 championship, some issues are unclear.
We know the team is based in Charlotte USA, we know they have a base in Europe too. We also know that the team seems to have an identity crisis as the domain name of their official site and the team name do not match. Other than that, we know little about the American team other than they continue to say they’ll be on the grid in Bahrain.
Ken Anderson, Bernard Ferguson and Peter Windsor are known quantities as they have all been involved in the sport for some time and the team has said they will test new recruit (and little known Argentinean) Jose Maria Lopez sometime soon. But still the rumours and doubts persist...
"I do not believe in the participation of USF1 and Campos," Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone told Sport Bild. "Instead, I have good contacts to StefanGP and would like to give this team a good starting point."
Interesting stuff as Bernie no doubt knows more than most about the financial and logistical demands of starting a new Formula One team as well as the terms of breaking the Concorde Agreement USF1 have reportedly signed.
StefanGP are the Serbian outfit aiming to break into Formula One this year and they’ve concluded a deal with Toyota to take over - effectively - the TF110 design and the services of the Cologne-based facility.
Meanwhile, the silence from USF1 is deafening and while Bernie may have got it wrong on his recent proposals to spice up the sport, he may well be on the money when it comes to who makes the grade and who will line up for the start of the 2010 season.
