Stefano Albertini leads the IRC 2WD Cup by 4.7s after being fastest of all three stages this morning. But the Italian, currently lying second in the championship behind Jean-Michel Raoux, may now back off over the final stages after Raoux lost a rear wheel on SS11.

"We tried to push this morning because we needed the maximum points for the championship," said co-driver Simone Scattolin. "But we need to check our pace notes because with only two passes it’s difficult - the stages are really fast. It’s important to pay a lot of attention!

"We are driving to win, but also to arrive at the finish because we need the points."
