Toshi Arai says the Subaru Impreza R4 he will use on Sata Rallye Açores has undergone several improvements since he gave the car its Intercontinental Rally Challenge debut in Corsica in mid-May.

Japanese ace Arai covered 100 kilometres during a test near Vienna last week and said he was pleased with the progress made.

Speaking at shakedown this morning, Arai said: “We have changed the suspension so the travel is longer, we have different springs and the traction is better. We have some differences with the engine mapping, which is also helping.”

Asked where he thinks he can finish, Arai added: “The roads are so difficult here, very narrow with high banks. I try to be in the top three but against the Super 2000 cars it will not be easy.”
