"It’s obviously vital for my future career"

Pierre Campana hopes his outing on this weekend’s Lyon-Charbonnieres Rally will be a springboard to driving a Super 2000 car in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge this season.

Campana, who has contested two IRC events in the past, albeit in a front-wheel drive Renault Clio, will drive a Peugeot 207 S2000 on the French championship event.

He said: "Having driven an S2000 car I know this is definitely the future for me. I enjoy driving the Clio but it’s obviously vital for my future career to accumulate four-wheel drive experience. I am looking forward to driving the car on Lyon-Charbonnieres but I would really welcome the opportunity to see how I compare against the top drivers from the IRC. From what I know of the series from Sanremo and Monte Carlo it’s really the place to be."

Campana, 24, will also contest selected rounds of the IRC 2WD Cup this season. He is currently fourth in the standings after finishing second in class on Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo in January.
