Johnny Cecotto will sit out tomorrow’s sprint race in Monaco after the race stewards judged that he failed to negociate turn 1 and caused a collision at the start of this morning’s feature race, which saw a multiple car pile up before the race was red flagged to remove the debris.

The Venezuelan started from pole but was beaten off the line by teammate Mitch Evans, with Fabio Leimer also looking to also pass into Ste Devote: Cecotto ran too deep and the pair went into the wall, with much of the field behind either colliding or stuck behind the stopped cars.

The race was suspended for over 30 minutes to remove the broken cars and reset the grid, with Cecotto among the nine drivers unable to take the restart. The Venezuelan, who would have lined up in P18 tomorrow, will have no further involvement in the Monaco race weekend.
