For the first time the Chevrolet team use the new, RML-designed, overhead boom system. This consists of a structure erected in the pit lane above each car and has two different functions.

It allows Chevrolet to have a far greater brand exposure in the pit lane, when deployed outside of the garage and, most important, it provides power supply for the tyre blankets and allows the drivers to have a TV monitor to watch TV and timekeeping feeds while sitting in the car.

The device is also helpful to download engine and chassis data without the engineers having to leave their data desk in the garage and carries a traffic light system enabling an orderly release of cars out to the track.

The feature was used yesterday for the first time in the Monza test and will be tested in race conditions this weekend.
