Citroën Racing head Yves Matton will be calling on his factory drivers José María López and Yvan Muller to work together in order to stave off the threat posed by the make’s FIA World Touring Car Championship rivals in 2016.
The French squad, chasing a hat-trick of Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ titles this season, will face strong opposition from Honda Racing’s expanded three-car line-up, a LADA team armed with a fleet of revamped Vestas, plus newcomer Volvo through its Polestar performance brand.
“With the arrival of a new, ambitious manufacturer, we are expecting the competition to be even tougher,” said Matton. “Pechito and Yvan are used to working together and making the success of the team their number one priority. They will need to be even more together.”
Citroën drivers triumphed in 21 of the 24 WTCC races held in 2015 and landed its second Manufacturers’ crown with a record haul of points.
