Harry Hunt will be full of confidence when he starts the Sibiu Rally, round eight of the all-action Intercontinental Rally Challenge, in Romania on Thursday.

The Briton, bidding to win the IRC 2WD Cup for the second time in three years, arrives in Transylvania’s former European Capital of Culture on a high following his first win of 2012 in the highly competitive two-wheel-drive division.

After seven rounds, the 23-year-old from London heads Honda’s Estonian young star Martin Kangur by 25 points. He said: “We didn’t have a great start to the season but everything has been going a lot better recently and I’m feeling full of beans after taking the class win in San Marino. It’s fantastic to be leading the IRC 2WD Cup again.”

Hunt, who is co-driven by countryman Robbie Durant, continued: “The majority of the stages in Romania will be on gravel and, after having a good gravel set-up in San Marino last weekend, I’m feeling confident that we can push for another win. It’s a leap into the unknown as it’s another new addition to the calendar, but San Marino was also a new event and I managed to take the class win so hopefully our good form can continue into next week too.”
