Sepp Wiegand says his career as a motocross rider could help him score a strong result on his return to Intercontinental Rally Challenge duty in San Marino this week.

Wiegand, currently fourth in the IRC drivers’ standings, missed the last round in Ypres through illness. However, he’s back in action for what will be only his third start on gravel and is raring to get started.

“For 12 years I was a motocross rider and maybe this can help me in a rally car on gravel,” said the ŠKODA Auto Deutschland driver. “Of course it’s completely different on two wheels and four wheels but in motocross you always look to find the line where the best grip is and maybe it can be the same in a rally car. This could help me."

Wiegand used this morning’s shakedown to experiment with different tyre compounds and ‘cuts’ having completed a successful pre-event test in Italy on Tuesday.
