François Delecour has come up with a possible reason why the driver’s door on his Peugeot 207 Super 2000 opened during stage three of Rally Liepāja-Ventspils on Friday evening.

Delecour, who is contesting a major FIA European Rally Championship bid in 2013, spent much of the 18.73-kilometre LDz Cargo stage with the door open.

“Maybe it was at the starting place where it was a little bit bumpy and when I closed the door, I didn’t see, but something got bent,” said Delecour. “Because at the first right corner the door was open and Dominique [Savignoni, my co-driver] said ‘what are you doing’ but the door was open and I cannot close the door. I was holding the door with the left hand in all the right corners. It was crazy and the time was incredible with one hand.”
