Marco Runfola’s hopes of scoring Intercontinental Rally Challenge points for the first time are over after the Italian was forced to retire from Targa Florio-Rally Internazionale Di Sicilia.

Runfola, who is from Sicily, completed Friday’s action in 10th overall in the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 he shares with co-driver Giovanni Lo Neri. However, a fault with the car’s handbrake could not be rectified and Runfola will go no further on the famous asphalt rally located east of the Sicilian capital Palermo.

His exit will promote Salvatore Riolo into 10th spot. However, with Riolo and the chasing Simone Campedelli and Harry Hunt not eligible for overall IRC points, Massimiliano Rendina is currently on course for the final IRC drivers’ point.
