IRC 2WD Cup champion Harry Hunt has revealed how he had to use his own supply of drinking water to complete the opening loop of stages of Rallye Sanremo earlier today.
The 23-year-old Briton hit trouble on the event’s first stage when the top of his car’s coolant became detached, which caused the engine in his Citroën DS3 R3T to overheat after the water supply became depleted.
“We managed to fix it by using the water we had in the car and by stuffing some duck tape into the hole,” said Hunt, who is currently 12th in the IRC 2WD Cup. “We also had some understeer in the first loop that was still there in the second loop. It’s not been a great start to the event to be honest but we’re still going.”
Hunt isn’t the only IRC 2WD Cup contender to have hit trouble: Sandro Sottile, who was chasing a hat trick of wins in the category, crashed his Honda Civic Type R into a wall on stage four, while Martin Kangur completed half of stage five and all of stage six with no powersteering in his Honda.
