The fight for the Yokohama Trophy is closer than ever as the latest event at Donington Park saw the leaders Norbert Michelisz and Kristian Poulsen scoring only a few points, and at the same time re-launched the hopes of Franz Engstler and Darryl O’ Young.
The former dominated the British event, claiming two victories and his first overall podium. Now Engstler and his Liqui Moly team look at their home races in Oschersleben with even more ambitions.
“It was my best weekend ever in WTCC. It was great for the whole team that did a great job. My car was absolutely perfect, although it was not possible to stay on the pace with the Chevrolet cars, I was able to fight on equal terms with Coronel and Tarquini,” said the German racer.
The first six drivers in the trophy’s classification are covered by only 16 points: Michelisz retained the lead, with Poulsen only two points behind. O’Young and Engstler moved up to third and fourth, with a gap of 5 and 10 points respectively, while Javier Villa and Michel Nykjær are 13 and 16 points behind the leader.
