Campos Racing’s John Filippi claimed his maiden pole position in the TC2T class and the Yokohama Trophy.

On his second appearance in the championship, the 19-year old Corsican managed to beat the more experienced Franz Engstler in today’s qualifying session at Le Castellet.

Filippi clocked a best lap of 1:35.972 at the wheel of his SEAT León car and beat the German driver’s BMW 320 TC by only five hundredths of a second; Engstler spoiled his last lap with a spin at the double right-handed bend of Le Beausset.

“I am very happy to take pole on my home race. It is only my second WTCC outing and it’s nice to achieve pole position, after clinching my first WTCC points at my maiden event in Marrakech. Tomorrow we will see how things unfold, I have no strategy planned, except to keep the BMW cars behind,” Filippi commented.
