Five drivers have been given penalties for infringements arising from the free practice and qualifying sessions today in Silverstone, with Series points leader Davide Valsecchi receiving two penalties by the race stewards this evening.

Valsecchi and Giedo van der Garde were both handed 10 place grid penalties after being judged to have overtaken rivals during a red flag period in this morning’s hectic free practice session: the Italian finished qualifying in 12th position, 2 spots behind his Dutch rival.

Valsecchi, along with DAMS teammate Felipe Nasr, Marcus Ericsson and Stefano Coletti were all excluded from the results of this afternoon’s qualifying session after failing to satisfy a technical regulation relating to the quantity of fuel available after the session.

All four drivers will be allowed to take the start of tomorrow’s feature race, but will start from the rear of the grid.
