Enrique Garcia Ojeda, the inaugural Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion in 2007, is targeting a return to the series on Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Ingles in April.

The 41-year-old Spaniard, who took the IRC crown at the wheel of a Peugeot 207 Super 2000 on the back of six podium finishes, hopes a strong performance on the Gran Canaria-based event will lead to more appearances in the IRC in 2011.

He said: “I want to be present on Rally Islas Canarias. I believe that it would be a good opportunity for me to enjoy driving a Super 2000 car again on an event that I know well.”

Garcia Ojeda, who became Spanish Tarmac champion the year after his success in the IRC, continued: “For us to be in Canarias and get a good result would help us to be present in other IRC events this year.”

No decision has been taken on what car Garcia Ojeda will drive on the island asphalt event, which runs from 14-16 April.
