Fredrik Ekblom insists switching form rear- to front-wheel drive for the 2016 FIA World Touring Car Championship isn’t causing him sleepless nights.
Along with team-mate and fellow Swede Thed Björk, Ekblom will contest a full roster of WTCC events in Polestar Cyan Racing’s all-new Volvo S60 Polestar TC1.
Björk and Ekblom are both products of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship where they race rear-wheel-drive cars.
“Either you can drive a racing car or you can’t drive a racing car,” said Ekblom. “It should be of no difference if you are a professional driver.”
Björk added: “I am not worried at all. Front-wheel drive, rear-wheel driven it doesn’t matter. We just need to take it up to the limit and try to develop and learn as much as possible to beat the other teams.”
Polestar is Volvo’s performance brand and is embarking on a long-term WTCC entry from 2016. Circuit Paul Ricard in France hosts the new season opener from 1-3 April.
