Armindo Araujo and Nasser Al-Attiyah have retired from day two of the Acropolis Rally, round six of the FIA World Rally Championship powered by Nokia.
Araujo completed stage 14 in 11th overall but did so with a bent compression strut on his MINI John Cooper Works WRC. Despite his best efforts, the WRC Team MINI Portugal driver was unable to make it through the following test, ranked as the toughest of the Greek event, when a wheel became detached from his car. It is understood the Portuguese will restart under Rally 2 rules on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Al-Attiyah did not start stage 15 after his Qatar World Rally Team Citroen DS3 WRC suffered a broken driveshaft on stage 14. Al-Attiyah was on course for seventh place when he hit trouble.
Jari-Matti Latvala and Sebastien Ogier are also in trouble with Latvala competing with no working right-rear brake, while Ogier suffered powersteering failure on stage 15.
