ŠKODA Auto Deutschland´s Matthias Kahle dropped out of the top 20 on the Canon Mecsek Rallye yesterday morning when an extended service to replace a broken fuel injector meant he was late checking in to a time control. Today he has been on the comeback trail, but his efforts have been hampered by gravel on the route.

"Our performance has been been better this morning but on the last stage we lost a lot of time and I don’t know why," he said. "Maybe I was a little bit too careful because of the gravel on the road. Two times I had a very big, dangerous sideways moment on the gravel.

"There’s certainly a lot of gravel around and if you’re not finding the right line you go off! But that’s something you have to deal with when you’re running in this position on the road.

"Yesterday we lost eight minutes with the time control, but that’s rallying."
