Hungarian Norbert Herczig will be told to avoid trying to upstage the Intercontinental Rally Challenge regulars when he makes his series debut on the Canon Mecsek Rallye.
Herczig, who drives a Fabia Super 2000 for SKODA Rally Team Hungaria, is in contention for this national title, which will be decided on the asphalt event this week.
“We’ve seen in many rallies this year local entrants trying to fight for the IRC positions”, said Pierfrancesco Zanchi. “But Norbert is clever enough to understand that he has a big opportunity to seal the first [national] title for the SKODA Rally Team Hungaria and I’m sure he will focus all his attention to this. Of course if he finds himself in a good position in the IRC classification then it will be good but definitely it’s not our main goal.”
IRC rules permit local drivers, such as Herczig, to score championship points. With previous event experience to call upon, the former Hungarian champion is likely to set a strong pace.
“Norbert knows the event having done it two times already with our team, he’s strong mentally, he will be confident and will do the best he can to stay in front and seal the title”, said Zanchi.
