Hevia: Spanish points the main focus

"The principal objective is to have Sergio Vallejo behind me"

Alberto Hevia has ruled out a repeat of his heroics on last year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge-counting Rally Principe de Asturias when he makes his return to the series in Gran Canaria this week.

Hevia will drive a Skoda Fabia Super 2000 on Rally Islas Canarias and can count on experience gained from three previous outings on the asphalt event.

However, his sole focus will be to score maximum Spanish championship points rather than attempt to land outright honours, despite almost winning the IRC qualifier on the Spanish mainland last year only to be slowed by a late puncture.

“It’s going to be very complicated against the other IRC drivers,” said Hevia. “I will try to do all I can but the principal objective is to have Sergio Vallejo behind me when the rally finishes.”

Like Hevia, Vallejo will also rely on Super 2000 technology on Rally Islas Canarias, albeit an M-Sport Ford Fiesta.
