Only a handful of points separates Honda from claiming a first Manufacturers’ title in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

On their maiden WTCC season, the Honda Civic cars driven by Castrol Honda Racing’s Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro, and Zengö Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz, have collected some brilliant results that culminated in Tarquini’s victory at the Slovakia Ring.

That success, together with ten other podium finishes and two pole positions, resulted in a fair amount of points that gave Honda a comfortable leadership in the standings ahead of LADA.

With four events still to go, Honda’s tally of 661 points results in a margin of 263, meaning that the Japanese car maker might clinch the title after the second race in Sonoma.

This would be Honda’s first world title in car racing since the four consecutive Formula One championships between 1988 and 1991, as McLaren’s engine supplier.
