Polestar Cyan Racing’s Fredrik Ekblom is hoping for hot weather when the FIA World Touring Car Championship resumes in Morocco this week.

The Swede’s Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 will run without compensation weight meaning it will be 80 kilograms lighter than the pacesetting Citroën C-Elysée WTCCs and 40 kilograms less heavy than the Honda Civic WTCCs.

“I’m hoping the hot weather will suit us because with no [compensation] weight our car won’t be so hard on the tyres,” said Ekblom, who along with team-mate Thed Björk is heading Volvo-Polestar’s long-term WTCC campaign.

After both drivers claimed fourth-place finishes in Hungary, Ekblom has high hopes of breaking into the top five once again. “There’s no reason why we can’t aim for the top five again and if we do our jobs right we can get a really good result with the reverse grid,” he said.
