Hungaroring, FP2: Björk puts Polestar WTCC ahead in Hungary

Thed Björk was quickest as Polestar Cyan Racing showed strong speed in the second practice session at the FIA WTCC Race of Hungary.

Björk set a best time of 1m47.525s – the quickest of the weekend so far – in the 30-minute session. Free Practice 1 pace-setter Gabriele Tarquini was second for LADA, just 0.074 seconds behind.

The other Volvo Polestar S60 driver Fredrik Ekblom was third, just nine thousandths ahead of the leading Citroën, which was top WTCC Trophy competitor Tom Chilton.

The best Honda and the best Chevrolet were next, with Norbert Michelisz and Tom Coronel respectively ensuring all five WTCC makes were represented in the top six.

José María López was seventh, but was improving his time on his final lap before choosing to head to the pits. Championship leader Tiago Monteiro, Yvan Muller and WTCC Trophy standings leader Mehdi Benanni completed the top 10.

The teams now have just over three hours to prepare their cars in time for Qualifying at 16h00.
