Harry Hunt’s bid to win the IRC 2WD Cup remains on course despite a scare on stage six of the FxPro Cyprus Rally earlier today.

The 22-year-old Briton just needs a point to secure the two-wheel drive award but slid off the road and got stuck in a ditch for two minutes.

Fortunately he was able to rejoin in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta R2 with his lead of the class intact such has been his impressive display on the Mediterranean island.

“It was tightening left about eight kilometres into the stage,” said Hunt’s co-driver Sebastian Marshall. “Unfortunately we were a little too fast and got caught out on some loose-surface gravel and ended up in a ditch.”

Hungarian Honda Civic driver Laszlo Vizin is Hunt’s closest challenger albeit almost 2m40s adrift.
