Harry Hunt warmed up for Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés this week with a two-day test in southern Portugal, which the Briton said was perfect preparation for the second event of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge season.
“The roads were much like the roads on Gran Canaria, so it was perfect preparation for next week,” said the 23-year-old, who won the IRC 2WD Cup in 2010. “We wanted to find a good car set-up but we also wanted to try out some different brake pads – we’ve tried them on gravel before but this week will be the first time that we’ve used these specific brake pads on asphalt. I’m feeling confident.”
Hunt’s team boss Iwan Evans said: “We have some new parts that we have tried on the car this week: suspension parts and braking components. This has improved the performance of the car in these areas. We’ve been able to find a good set-up and we’re confident of a good result after our test.”
Briton Hunt will be one of several drivers in contention for IRC 2WD Cup glory when the all-asphalt rally gets underway with the first of 15 stages on Friday.
