Néstor Girolami was a double points-scorer on his return to the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Japan last weekend – and was quick to pay tribute to Polestar Cyan Racing for the opportunity to race one its factory Volvo S60 Polestar TC1s.
Girolami, a back-to-back Súper TC2000 champion from Argentina, is racing in the Stock Car Brasil series this year. However, he’s been working on a WTCC comeback for sometime and got his chance at Twin Ring Motegi, where he placed ninth and fifth in the two races having set the pace in both Free Practice 1 and 2.
“This has been a very good weekend for me,” said the 27-year-old talent. “We made a lot of changes to the car for the second race, improving it a lot and when I passed [Tom] Chilton I could really make some ground on the top cars ahead of me. I am very proud and grateful for the result and the opportunity the team has given me.”
No decision has been made on whether Girolami will make further appearances for Polestar Cyan Racing this season, which is currently evaluating driver options for 2017.
