Jan Kopecký says he won’t be able to catch Kris Meeke on pace alone on Rally Islas Canarias.
The Czech trails Meeke by 14.5 seconds with three stages of Friday’s leg remaining.
He said: “Kris is very fast and is setting some very good times. I have really been at the maximum and on the last stage I had a big moment when we were sliding in fifth gear. I try to go faster and we try to improve the set-up but it won’t be easy to catch Kris because I know he can get faster also.”
Asked whether he would be prepared to settle for second, Kopecký replied: “I don’t think to that for now. It is still a long way to go.”
