Jan Kopecký has conceded his succession of stage wins on the Geko Ypres Rally won’t make a difference to the outcome of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier. However, he has been able to improve the handling of his works Škoda Fabia S2000 after reporting a bout of understeer.

Czech Kopecký has gone quickest on the last four stages but his efforts have done little to erode Freddy Loix’s advantage out front with the Belgian leading by 28.1 seconds with six stages remaining.

“I have been going very fast, not taking big risks, but going very fast,” said Kopecký. “The problem is Freddy is always very close to me. The good thing is we’ve been able to make some improvements to the car with some small changes that has helped the understeer we’ve had and helped my confidence with the car because it has not always been so good on this rally.”
