Michal Kosciuszko remains on course for a podium finish in the Production Car World Rally Championship section of Rally Guanajuato Mexico despite a scare prior to the second Ibarrilla stage this afternoon.

The PWRC title leader inflicted substantial damage to the left side of his Ralliart Italia Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X striking a rock on Saturday’s first test, which required extensive repair at service in Leon.

He is currently classified in second place behind team-mate Benito Guerra but is set to drop behind Nicolas Fuchs when a time penalty is applied after he started stage 15 out of sequence.

A spokesperson for Ralliart Italia said: “The mechanics had to set about a serious repair job at midday service. Substantial repairs to the rear of his Mitsubishi left him ready to go for the afternoon loop, but after persistent troubles on the road section, the team decided it was better for the crew to stop and take time to make some final touches - despite suffering a time penalty - than risk a problem when they took to the opening stage of the afternoon loop. Comfortable in third, our crew didn’t risk losing position but are now confident in their Mitsubishi’s ability to see them through the second loop.”
