Two-time champion José María López proved he’s human after all with a handful of driving errors in qualifying at FIA WTCC Race of Portugal on Sunday. However, the Argentine’s capture of two fifth-place finishes keeps him firmly in control of the World Touring Car Championship standings.
“I made a few little mistakes over the weekend,” said López. “I didn’t manage to find my usual confidence level with the car. But you have to look at the positives. Despite tricky starting positions, I produced two sensible races to pick up two fifth places.”
Citroën driver López holds a 101-point advantage over Honda’s Tiago Monteiro ahead of the WTCC’s upcoming summer break.
