Bruno Magalhães has revealed a huge feeling of disappointment following his exit from the GEKO Ypres Rally on Friday.

The 30-year-old underlined his pace by setting the fourth fastest time through the opening special stage of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event only to retire on the very next run when his Peugeot Sport Portugal 207 Super 2000 suffered a rare mechanical failure.

“I am very, very disappointed because I worked a lot for this rally with my pacenotes and by watching a lot of videos of the stages,” said Magalhães. “The start was really excellent even though I might not have had the best rhythm and I was very confident to be in a good position overnight so this is a big disappointment.”

Magalhães, from Lisbon, is currently eighth in the IRC drivers’ standings.
