Upon a request coming from representatives of the car Manufacturers represented in the WTCC, the FIA Touring Car Commission drafted a new scale for the cars’ minimum weights and amended the compensation weight system. These changes have been approved by the World Motor Sport Council through a fax vote.

As a result of this changes, the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T and the BMW 320 TC cars have been allocated a minimum weight of 1160 kg, against 1150 kg for the other cars that took part in the championship last year. This makes the Chevrolet twenty kilos lighter compared to a previous allocation and ten kilos heavier compared to last year.

The compensation weight system will now allocate the 40-kg maximum ballast only to all the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T cars (being the 2011 winning model) for the first two events of the season, while all other cars will run on their minimum weight. In previous years the whole field was laden with the maximum ballast on their first two participations.

From the third event onwards weights will be adjusted according to performance on the track.
