Meeke: Spain finish a priority

MINI ace targets going the distance ahead of rapid stage times

Kris Meeke is prioritising completing the entire route of RallyRACC-Rally de Espana as he bids to end a run of four events without a finish.

The MINI WRC Team ace has demonstrated plenty of promise in his John Cooper Works WRC this season but a combination mechanical glitches and a mistake on Rallye de France Alsace has contributed to a frustrating period for the Briton.

“Sometimes you have to prioritise the finishing over the stage times and that’s the case definitely for this event,” said Meeke. “In France we were pushing to try and set the times. I was really annoyed with myself to be honest because you try to be perfect all the time. I’m on a learning curve and France was a bit of a setback but that’s the game we’re in.”

Meeke’s efforts have been overshadowed by his team-mate Dani Sordo’s back-to-back podium finishes in Germany and France. He hopes Sordo’s form can help him to get his season back on track.

“It’s always good to have a strong team-mate and Dani has proven over the last number of years that he’s one of the fastest guys in the world on Tarmac,” said Meeke. “For me to be as close as I am to him with the experience I have means we’re not doing so bad. It’s brilliant for the team and Dani to get the results he’s had. We’ve just been a little bit unfortunate this year both with some mechanical issues and my one mistake in France. We’ll pick ourselves up again.”
