Kris Meeke has warned of the perils created by the high-grip road surface on Rally Islas Canarias.
The defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion sampled Gran Canaria’s abrasive asphalt roads during a test on Monday prior to completing two days of reconnaissance yesterday and shakedown this morning.
He said: “The road offers so much grip so it’s easy to overstep the mark and over commit into the corners. Alberto Hevia has been here three times and crashed four times so work that one out!”
Peugeot UK driver Meeke described the island’s stages as a cross between the rallies in Catalunya, Madeira and Sanremo, adding: “They’ve got lots of character. There’s slow and fast stuff, lefts and rights and lots of gradient. We get up to 1600 metres in some places. There won’t be a lot of difference in times.”
