Kris Meeke has won the Association of Northern Ireland Car Clubs’ prestigious Northern Ireland Motorsport Award for 2009.

The defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion received the award at ANICC’s annual prize presentation in Portadown, Northern Ireland, in front of more than 400 guests.

Peugeot UK driver Meeke used the opportunity to praise the role played by navigator Paul Nagle during their title-winning season. Nagle was unable to attend the ceremony.

Previous winners of the award include ex-F1 stars Eddie Irvine and John Watson and leading rally drivers Eugene Donnelly and Niall McShea.

Meeke resumes his IRC campaign on Rally Internacional de Curitiba in Brazil from March 4-6.
