Norbert Michelisz will be José María López’s successor to the FIA World Touring Car Championship throne if personal ambition has anything to do with it.

Honda’s Hungarian star wants to take WTCC gold one day and has told respected British magazine MotorSport that he’ll keep working until he becomes world champion.

“I enjoy the WTCC and would like to achieve my personal limits within this series,” the 32-year-old computer gamer turned racer told MotorSport’s Simon Arron in a career profile article. “I want to win the world title, so there’s still work to do.”

Michelisz is in his first season as factory driver having twice won the WTCC Trophy for independent racers.

“Things are obviously easier with a works team,” he explained. “Because we have more mechanics and can do more testing – I love the development side of the job. In the WTCC there are many drivers at a similar level, so it is important to find perfect harmony with your car.”
